Car touchscreen with spider cracks from screen delamination

Which car do you drive?

Each brand has its own page with models, years and prices. Pick yours.

It is not your fault. It is the screen.

Many car touchscreens bond the touch layer to the display with an adhesive that breaks down with heat and UV. A summer on an Adelaide dashboard is exactly what does it.

It shows up in a few ways, often together:

  • Spider cracks spreading from the corners with no impact
  • Bubbles or a cloudy, rainbow sheen under the glass
  • Ghost touches: volume changes, random menus, calls you never dialled

Common questions

Why is my car touchscreen cracking or bubbling?

Many car touchscreens bond the touch layer to the display with an adhesive or gel that breaks down with heat and UV. Depending on the car it shows up as spider cracks from the corners (Mazda) or bubbles under the glass (Subaru). Nothing hit the screen; it is a known fault, often called screen delamination.

What is ghost touching?

The screen registers touches nobody made: it changes the volume, skips songs, opens menus or dials contacts while you drive. It is the same fault as the cracking or bubbling, and a touchscreen replacement fixes it.

How much does a car touchscreen replacement cost?

A flat $499 fitted for most Mazdas, $599 for the Mazda CX-9, and $549 for the 2018 to 2020 Subaru Outback and Liberty. The price is confirmed before you book. Dealers usually replace the whole head unit, which costs several times more.

How long does it take?

Around 2 hours. You drop the car off near Westfield West Lakes and pick it up the same morning or afternoon.

Do I lose my settings or need the dealer afterwards?

No. We replace the touchscreen and your original head unit stays in the car, so there is no programming, and your radio presets, Bluetooth pairings and settings are untouched.
